I have taken Ultram for several years now for treatment of migraines. My headaches are caused by muscle tension in my neck, so regular migraine treatments such as Imitrex do not work for me. I was taking Vicodin briefly for another issue, and even that would not touch my migraines. I work for a physician’s office, and one of our physicians gave me a sample of Ultram to try (before it was considered a controlled substance). It worked great! I take it in conjunction with ibuprofen when I have a migraine coming on (usually once a week or less). Please keep in mind that each person is different, therefore pain meds will have different effects on each individual. Just because it doesn’t work for one person doesn’t mean it won’t for another, and vice versa. I am careful to only take Ultram when necessary due to the fact that it can be addictive. Taking it as I do I have not had any problems with this. I am much more comfortable taking this instead of a stronger pain medication such as Vicodin or Percocet.

I was in a car accident in 2007 and had some minor yet longterm injuries. I was prescribed hydrocodone at the hospital which I did not like. It made me itch like crazy and the pain relief only lasted about an hour. So my doctor prescribed Tramadol. I take 400mg a day and it helps tremendously. Not only does it help with the pain it also gives me energy that lasts all day. Please note that it may take a couple days to feel the full effect of the medicine. Tramadol is not for someone who is looking to get a “high” from the drug. I have been taking this drug since 2007 and have had no side effects. I take it just like my doctor prescribes and have no complaints. The only downside to this medication is the withdrawal symptoms. I accidentally dropped half of my prescription down our garbage disposal a couple years ago. The withdrawal symptoms i felt were horrible. It feels like your skin is crawling. I couldn’t sleep. My arms and legs could not stay still. Very restless. You definitly have to gradually lower your dose if you want to stop taking the medication. Other than that, it really helps with my pain.

I take this in conjunction with Topomax (daily) for migraine prevention and it works very well. I take 200mg of Tramadol per day and seems to be working on the preventative side…I am very thankful for these two drugs. They gave me my life back.

I have fibromyalsia and Degenerative Discs in my cervical spine. Tramadol works great and gives me energy. I go back and forth between this and Hydrocodone, I feel they work better for me when I alternate. Only downfall is you do get withdrawal symptoms if you go without.
